List of candidates in 121 constituencies published, BSP announces contest in 200 constituencies

The six-party front ‘Liberal Islamic Alliance’ led by the Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) has announced to field candidates for 200 seats in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. This alliance has already finalized the partial list of candidates for 121 constituencies.
BSP Chairman Shahzada Syed Saifuddin Ahmad Maizbhandari announced the names of these partial candidates of the already finalized coalition in a press conference at the National Press Club on Tuesday (28 November).
The press conference was organized to announce the candidate of the Supreme Party-led Liberal Islamic Alliance.
The other five parties in the alliance are: Bangladesh Islami Oikyajot, Krishak Sramik Party, Bangladesh Jandal (BJD), National Awami Party (NAP Bhasani) and Ashikine Auliya Oikya Parishad.
In the press conference, Syed Saifuddin Ahmad Maizbhandari said, “We will field candidates for 200 seats in the upcoming elections on behalf of our alliance Liberal Islamic Alliance.” Today announcing the partial list of nominees against 121 parliamentary constituencies.
In response to a question from journalists, he said, “We will not be from any alliance, we will be elected from our position with our Marka (Ektar). We are electing to continue the democratic process. There is no alternative to elections to uphold the constitution. We do not want any undemocratic power to come into the country.

Referring to the nominees of BSP and Morcha Liberal Islamic Alliance led by it, he said, ‘We have 30 heavyweight candidates across the country. Those who can win if there is a fair election. We have ensured representation of all communities and classes in giving nominations. Our nominees include candidates of other religions as well as candidates of the third gender.
In response to the question whether the election will be participatory if BNP does not participate, the chairman of BSP said, “We think that the election will be participatory if most of the registered political parties come to the polls and the people vote.” It is their democratic right to join or boycott the election of any party. I have called BNP and other registered parties to come to the polls before, and I am still doing so. Because, if the election is not competitive, it does not accumulate.
Regarding dialogue, he said, ‘We were in favor of dialogue, we are still. There’s still time. Aiming at the country and nation, dialogue is still possible if you want their good.’
Election symbol of BSP newly registered with Election Commission (EC) is ‘Ektar’. Candidates of Liberal Islamic Alliance led by BSP will be elected in this symbol.
